Three youths have been attacked at Westfield Mall in Riccarton.

It follows multiple assaults by youths reported either inside or outside the mall in recent months.

A police spokeswoman confirmed that police received reports of two groups of youths fighting around the Riccarton Mall area shortly before 5pm on Saturday.

The owner of Columbus Coffee on Riccarton Road said his staff saw 3 topless youths come into the cafe.

“One grabbed a table knife from our back counter and injured someone with it.

There was a fight and the police came in and took them away. Two ambulances arrived at the scene.”

The police spokeswoman said police are making inquiries to establish whether or not two of the alleged offenders had a knife.

She said three people sustained minor to moderate injuries.

“Police are following positive lines of inquiry into the circumstances of the incident and to locate the offenders.”

Westfield Australian owners Scentre group have never replied to Chris Lynch Media for requests for comment on assaults at their properties.
