What does life at Orange mean?

You do not need proof of vaccination

You will not be asked to show your My Vaccine Pass to access these places and services:

  • supermarkets

  • dairies

  • food banks

  • pharmacies

  • petrol stations

  • public transport services except for air travel

  • essential health and disability services, including primary care services, specialist clinics, laboratories and imaging services, public and private hospitals, maternity care, hospice services, oral healthcare services, mental health care services, ambulances and emergency care

  • aged residential care services

  • public housing and social housing

  • emergency accommodation for people in need.

Shops and retail outlets can open

Shops, including outdoor markets and banks, can open with capacity limits based on 1-metre distancing. They can choose to follow My Vaccine Pass requirements, though this will not affect their capacity limits. They can require you to show your My Vaccine Pass to enter the shop.  You must wear a face covering if you are visiting a shop.

Most businesses can open with no restrictions on numbers if they choose to follow My Vaccine Pass requirements, and only allow fully vaccinated people to enter.

If they choose not to follow My Vaccine Pass requirements, there will be limits on the number of people who can be in a venue at one time.

You will be legally required to provide your My Vaccine Pass to enter places that have vaccination requirements in place under the traffic light system. This may include hospitality venues, events, gatherings and gyms.

You cannot be asked to provide your My Vaccine Pass to access basic needs services, such as supermarkets, public transport, and essential health care. 

Hospitality venues

Hospitality venues, such as cafes, bars, restaurants and nightclubs, can open at Orange with no restrictions if they follow My Vaccine Pass requirements.

If a hospitality venue chooses to follow My Vaccine Pass requirements, only people with a My Vaccine Pass are allowed to be there. Children under the age of 12 years and 3 months do not need to provide a My Vaccine Pass to enter places with a vaccination requirement.

You will be asked to show your My Vaccine Pass when you are at the venue. This includes delivery drivers who enter to pick up orders.

There are no limits on the number of people who can be at the venue. You do not have to be seated to be served.

People without a My Vaccine Pass will be able to pick up takeways if the venue has a contactless way to do this.

Close-proximity businesses can open

You can visit a close-proximity business at Orange if you have a My Vaccine Pass. There is no limit to how many people can be present. 

Examples are: 

  • barbers

  • hairdressers

  • beauty salons

  • driving instructors

  • massage therapists.

If a close-proximity business chooses to follow My Vaccine Pass requirements, only people with a My Vaccine Pass are allowed to be there. Children under the age of 12 years and 3 months do not need to provide a My Vaccine Pass to enter places with a vaccination requirement.

Close-proximity businesses cannot open if they choose not to follow My Vaccine Pass requirements.

Gatherings can go-ahead

You can gather with anyone at Orange, with My Vaccine Pass requirements and restrictions. Under the traffic light system, household bubbles do not exist.

Examples of gatherings that can go ahead at Orange include:

  • catching up with friends and whānau

  • weddings and civil union ceremonies

  • faith-based gatherings, for example church services

  • get-togethers and parties at your home or private dwelling

  • club functions

  • social sports

  • street parades

  • free public concerts in a park

  • community fairs

  • funerals and tangihanga.

With My Vaccine Pass

If a gathering chooses to follow My Vaccine Pass requirements, only people with a My Vaccine Pass are allowed to be there. Children under the age of 12 years and 3 months do not need to provide a My Vaccine Pass to enter places with a vaccination requirement.

You will be asked to show your My Vaccine Pass when you are at the venue.

There is no limit to how many people can be at the venue.

Without My Vaccine Pass

If a venue for a gathering chooses not to follow My Vaccine Pass requirements:

  • At a gathering at your home, there can be up to 50 people.

  • At gatherings held at other venues, there can be up to 50 people based on 1-metre physical distancing in a single defined space at the venue at any time.

They can be a mix of people with and without My Vaccine Pass.

The limit applies to both indoor and outdoor venues. 

The limit includes children. It does not include staff.

Where you must wear a face-covering at Orange

  • on domestic air transport services

  • public transport

  • arrival and departure points of public transport services

  • retail

  • public venues/facilities (not swimming pools)

  • pharmacies

  • veterinary services and animal health and welfare services

  • courts and tribunals

  • specified social services

  • the public area of premises operate by NZ Post Limited

  • premises operated by a central government agency, a local authority, or NZ Police

  • anyone who is not a patient or worker of a health service other than pharmacies

  • workers (paid and non-paid) at food and drink businesses and services, including within events

  • workers (paid and non-paid) at close-proximity businesses

  • workers (paid and non-paid) at gathering

You can have tradespeople and home services inside your home

You can have tradespeople and home services inside your home at any traffic light setting.

Examples of trades and home services are:

  • getting home appliances fixed, like your fridge

  • utility services, like gas and power

  • cleaning for people who need assistance because of sickness or disability

  • gardening services

  • getting internet or other services installed or fixed

  • locksmiths

  • vet and pest management services.

Tradespeople are required to wear a face-covering when inside people’s homes, and to keep a record of where they go.
