Loving tributes have been made for a man who died after saving a child at Spencer Beach.
Nga Rimaati Poaru died on Sunday afternoon, after saving an 11-year-old boy from drowning.
In a heartbreaking post, friend Jessica Te Karu said “our brother, son, cousin, nephew, friend Nga gave his life to save another.
Tragically he did not win the battle for his life and was taken too soon.
With no savings or insurance, we are pulling funds from wherever we can to give Nga the send-off he deserves. Every cent received is greatly appreciated.”
Friends of Nga, sent Chris Lynch Media details of the Give a Little page to help his family.
One donor said “Nga made the ultimate sacrifice in service to others. Arohanui to his family and friends, and all impacted by this terrible tragedy.”
Another person said “we lost such a gentle giant that meant the world to those around him.
The hood won’t be the same without you. Sorry, we couldn’t cross paths more often Nga but I know you were a true champ.”
