Tributes continue for a talented 15-year-old boxer who lost his life on New Year’s Eve.
Kaide Bailey died after the vehicle he was in rolled on Rangiora-Leithfield Road, near Pembertons Road just before 8PM.
Three others sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital, including one who was in a critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit.
More than $17,000 has been raised for his grieving family on a Give A Little page.
Valhalla Boxing in Rangiora made the heartbreaking public announcement of Kaide’s death on social media on New Year’s Day.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of the young Valhalla warrior Kaide.
He trained hard, fought hard and was a great young guy. Taken way too soon. Sending love to his family and friends. Rest in peace young Warrior.”
Kaide’s boxing friends described him as “talented and very hard-working.”
A friend of Kaide’s family said he showed a lot of potential as a young boxer and junior rugby player.
“He was a full-time gamer and part-time worker.
Kaide also loved anything to do with the water, especially going out surfing with his dad.
His little brother Tyga just adored him and would love to try and game with Kaide!
He touched everyone who he met and will be very sorely missed by his friends.”
Kaide attended a New Year’s Eve party before the accident happened.
The mother of one of Kaide’s friends told Chris Lynch Media most at the party had just turned 16.
A police spokesperson said the circumstances of the crash remain under investigation.
Kaide’s funeral will be held tomorrow.
