Two people have been injured at New Brighton beach, where the Surf Lifesaving Championships are taking place.
Emergency services were called after reports that “two boats collided.”
A St John Ambulance spokeswoman said they were notified at 1.30 PM and responded with one ambulance and one rapid response vehicle.
She said paramedics assessed and treated one patient in a moderate condition and another in a minor condition.
Both were transported to Christchurch hospital.
Local Christchurch clubs made up the majority of the 176 competitors at the Surf Lifesaving Championships.
