There’s surface flooding in some parts of Christchurch this afternoon, but the heavy rain has eased.
A Heavy Rain Warning – Orange remains in place for wider Canterbury, up until 9pm.
Metservice said “expect 60 to 90 mm of rain to accumulate about eastern parts of the High Country and foothills south of the Rangitata River, and 20 to 60 mm elsewhere.
These amounts are in addition to the rain that has already fallen today. Peak rates of 10 to 15 mm/h. Note, the rain should ease in the north this afternoon.”
Metservice said heavy rain may cause streams and rivers to rise rapidly.
The forecast for Christchurch city said “rain, heavy at times, easing to a few showers this afternoon. Easterlies, strong in exposed places, gradually dying out this afternoon.”
Surface flooding and slips are also possible and driving conditions may be hazardous Metservice said.
