Chris Lynch Media has received similar stories of assaults at other schools. We will follow these up, on behalf of parents and children affected, who have spoken of the devastating impacts assaults have had on victims. There are ongoing discussions about publishing violent video content, and permission is obtained by parents before publication. We will continue highlighting violence in our communities.
A Shirley Boys High student was punched 30 times in a disturbing attack that took place on the school grounds.
Despite the attack happening over two weeks ago, police have confirmed no one has been arrested.
A video of the assault was sent to Chris Lynch Media by a concerned parent, following violent attacks at Hilmorton High School.
The video shows a boy punching another student in the bathroom, at least 30 times to the head and body.
Headmaster Tim Grocott confirmed details of the attack. “Yes we are well aware of the event and dealt with the incident immediately.”
Grocott said “the incident occurred during lunchtime on Monday 31st October at approximately 1.30pm.
We encouraged the victim’s family to go to the police, which they did. We have subsequently worked with the police on their inquiries.”
Grocott said “I am unable to go into exact details about the student who assaulted the other student due to privacy, but he has not been back at school since the incident.
We have had a hui with his family to discuss consequences and are currently looking at alternative arrangements for his further schooling.
We have scheduled another meeting next week with them.”
”This was a very unpleasant event that does not reflect the values of our school.
We have offered support for the victim and his family and will continue to work with them if they require it” Grocott said.
