Emergency services are at the scene of a single-vehicle crash in Ilam.
A police spokesperson said a vehicle struck a wall and a power pole about 5pm on Maidstone Road, between Westmont Street and Avonhead Road.
The road has been closed while Orion contractors attend to the scene.
An eyewitness told Chris Lynch Media “as far as we’re aware the driver is okay, we got out to help and he was awake and responding relatively quickly. The car had just plowed into the power pole so it had been ripped up out of the ground, with exposed wires near the car.”
A St John Ambulance spokesman said they were notified at 4.54pm, sending one ambulance and one rapid response vehicle.
One patient has been taken to Christchurch Hospital in a moderate condition.
The wall of a house appears to have collapsed.
The vehicle involved is located about three houses down the road from the wall.
