A police dog vehicle was rammed by offenders during an incident in Christchurch’s central city.
Police received a report of a man and a woman interfering with parked cars on Rolleston Avenue around 2pm.
Police staff and a dog were deployed to the area to make enquiries to locate the pair the spokeswoman said.
As staff arrived at the scene, the dog unit and a member of the public’s vehicle were rammed by a vehicle.
Eyewitnesses said police officers blocked off the Rolleston Avenue entrance to Hagley Park, and there was a large police presence.
The two people initially reported to have been in the area were taken into custody following the collision.
No one was injured during the incident the police spokeswoman said.
Both the man and the woman will be processed in due course and charges are being considered.
