A person has been arrested and charged following a police stand off in Riccarton.
Police were called to Matai Street West at 4pm on Saturday.
The road was blocked off for about three and a half hours.
Residents weren’t allowed to return to their homes until the stand off concluded.
A resident told Chris Lynch Media he heard police using a loud speaker urging the suspect to come out of their house saying they were “surrounded.”
Fire and Emergency crews and a St John Ambulance crew were called to the scene as a precautionary measure.
A police spokesman said the person of interest was arrested shortly after 7.30PM.
They were due appear in the Christchurch District Court on Monday on previous family-harm-related charges.
Further charges wre being considered.
