One person has died in helicopter crash

A helicopter pilot has died in a crash in Otago this morning.

A Maritime New Zealand spokeswoman told Chris Lynch the helicopter was flying from Milton to Alexandra and was reported overdue at 5.30am

She said the helicopter belongs to a Milton-based helicopter company

A Dunedin-based helicopter was sent to search for the missing helicopter, and located it at 7,30am at Deep Creek, 33 miles west of Dunedin, North of Beaumont, West of Glendhu Forest

The helicopter had crashed and there were no survivors on board.  One person is listed as being on the helicopter

The Police and Civil Aviation Authority are on their way to the crash site and they are now in charge of the investigation.
