One person arrested following armed police callout in Wainoni

One person had been arrested in Wainoni following a firearms incident.

A police spokesperson told Chris Lynch at about noon today police received information that a person was illegally in possession of a firearm.

“As a consequence, police cordoned off a section of Wainoni to locate the person involved.”

The Armed Offenders Squad attended as a precaution.

Just after 4pm, a person was taken into custody without incident.

A firearm and ammunition was recovered and nobody was injured as a result.

Cordons in the area have now been removed.

The police spokesperson said charges are being considered.

Police have thanked those members of the community affected by the cordons and appreciate this matter would have caused concern.
