A fleeing driver has escaped police road spikes last night.

A police spokeswoman told Chris Lynch just before 10.45pm, a police unit observed a vehicle of interest and signalled for it to stop in Avondale.

The vehicle failed to stop.

Police deployed spikes however the driver of the vehicle swerved in an attempt to miss the spikes.

She said the vehicle struck a traffic light, pedestrian barrier and give-way sign before carrying on to QEII Drive.

The vehicle was abandoned in a paddock in St Albans and the driver was not located.

Enquiries are ongoing.
