Youth offenders, wearing balaclavas and involved in a series of violent incidents, managed to evade the Christchurch police.
Chris Lynch Media understands three youths in stolen vehicles were responsible for a crime wave across Christchurch on Thursday afternoon and evening.
A police spokesman confirmed the incidents involved two stolen vehicles and occurred in quick succession.
According to the police spokesman, officers responded to several incidents, including a theft from a bus in Burwood, dangerous driving in New Brighton, and an aggravated robbery in Riccarton, where a man was attacked.
Fortunately, the victim was not seriously injured.
Police were investigating the incidents and were exploring whether they were connected.
Anyone who witnesses illegal or suspicious behaviour is urged to call 111 if the situation is ongoing or 105 to report it after the fact, the police spokesman said.
