An 18-year-old man has been injured after being struck by a ute at a car meet-up in North Canterbury.

A St John spokesperson said emergency services were called to the incident at 2:18am, at the intersection of Beatties Road and Upper Sefton Road.

One ambulance was sent to the scene.

The 18-year-old’s aunt told chrislynchmedia.com her nephew was unconscious and transferred to ED via ambulance.

“He was released late morning. He is very much not ok, but no broken bones somehow.

His recovery for concussion could be lengthy” she said. The ute reportedly left the scene.

ChrisLynchMedia.com has reviewed the footage but opted not to publish it due to its graphic content.
The video shows a ute performing a burnout before striking a teenager with the rear of the vehicle. The impact flips the teenager upside down as the ute continues driving down the road.

A St John spokesperson said the victim was assessed at the scene and transported to Christchurch Hospital in serious condition.

A police spokeswoman said “Enquiries are ongoing to locate the driver and determine the circumstances of the incident.
