The woman who died following a house fire in Hornby on December 11 has been named as 53-year-old Corrina Angelique Smith, known as Angie to her friends and family.
Emergency services were alerted to the house fire on Dickson Crescent in Hornby at 12:55 pm
Fire and Emergency New Zealand crews worked quickly to bring the blaze under control, but Smith was tragically found deceased at the scene.
Police said the scene examination has been completed, but the specific cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Initial inquiries indicate the fire was not suspicious and is being treated as accidental.
“Our thoughts and condolences are with her family and friends at this difficult time,” police said.
Neighbours described Smith as a kind and caring person, often seen chatting with those in the community.
One local resident said, “She was always friendly, and it’s just so sad this has happened.”
The incident comes during a time when fire safety authorities are urging residents to check smoke alarms and ensure their homes are prepared for the summer fire season.
Further investigations will be carried out to determine the exact cause of the fire, and the death will be referred to the Coroner.
