House of Hoopz Papanui ‘25
Come on down to Paddington Reserve for a day of fun, music and competition at House of Hoopz Papanui ’25. Register on the day for the 3 x 3 basketball tournament (13 – 18 years), enjoy free food and drinks, a live DJ, prizes and giveaways and more.
Speeches begin at 11.05am, food will be served at 12.15pm and the tournament starts at 12.30pm.
Summer Sundays – Jazz on the Lawn
Last but not least, Jazz on the Lawn! Summer Sundays, Christchurch’s outdoor summer music service supported by The Hits, returns this summer with three free concerts to entertain the crowds.
Last up, Jazz on the Lawn featuring Jennine Bailey and her band, WooHoo Trio, and King Tubbs. The free event will be on from 1 – 4pm Sunday at Archery Lawn at the Christchurch Botanic Gardens. Picnic food, drinks and chairs are welcome – no glass, please.
Chinese New Year celebrations
Celebrate the Year of the Snake at Upper Riccarton Library with Christchurch City Libraries. Come along to the library from 1 – 3pm Saturday and enjoy a variety of free Chinese traditional games, shadow puppet making and storytelling, and learn how to play Chinese Chess.
Learn how Lion Dance works from 10am – midday Saturday with a free workshop delivered jointly by the Qiao Yi Lion Dance team and Christchurch City Libraries staff. Learn how to make a lion head with recycled materials and the basic movements, then participate in a lion dance performance.
Newcomers Volunteering Expo
New to Christchurch? Discover how volunteering can connect you with the community and enhance your skills at the Newcomers Volunteering Expo at the Multicultural Recreation and Community Centre. Find out how volunteering can help you make connections and gain valuable skills to help you settle in.
Meet fellow newcomers, other community members and a variety of local organisations who can help you find your place in the community through volunteering. Come along to this free event from 11am – 1pm Saturday.
Riverlution Farmers Market
Discover a wide range of seasonal produce, artisan breads and handcrafted treats, all provided by local growers and makers at the Riverlution Farmers Market. Grab a coffee from the Riverlution Café and enjoy live music.
Nestled among the Richmond Community Garden is the new City to Sea Pathway and Avebury’s new playground, so come and enjoy a morning outdoors, meet your neighbours and support local sustainability. The market will be on from 9am – midday Saturday at Riverlution Café, 46A Vogel Street.
