The Sanitarium Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon has reached a major milestone this year, surpassing half a million participants since it began in 1992 with just 500 children.
More than 2,000 young athletes from across Canterbury will take part in this year’s event at Jellie Park in Burnside, Christchurch, on Sunday, February 23.
Participants, aged 6 to 15, will swim, bike, and run their way to the finish line, where they will receive a special medal from some of New Zealand’s top sporting figures.
Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon ambassador and Black Ferns great, Alana Bremner, will also be making a special appearance at the event.
Registrations remain open at tryathlon.co.nz and will be available on the day, provided spaces do not sell out in advance.
The Sanitarium Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon has grown into the world’s largest triathlon event for children under 16 and has become a beloved tradition for Kiwi kids.
Designed to encourage young people of all sporting abilities to stay active and healthy, the event allows participants to compete individually or as part of a two-person team across age-appropriate courses.
