The iconic C-130H Hercules has made its final landing at Wigram, marking the end of an era in New Zealand’s aviation history.

As aircraft NZ7001 roared into Christchurch on Wednesday afternoon, a crowd of onlookers erupted in cheers, celebrating the arrival of a plane that has served the nation for six decades.

The much-anticipated aircraft took just over an hour to make its journey from RNZAF Base Woodbourne, near Blenheim, to its new home at the Air Force Museum of New Zealand, where it will be preserved for future generations.

The C-130H Hercules has been a backbone of the Royal New Zealand Air Force, delivering troops, cargo, and humanitarian aid across the globe and within New Zealand for 60 years.

A New Zealand Defence Force spokesperson said the aircraft has accumulated more than 33,000 accident-free flying hours and completed 20,000 landings, a testament to its durability and the skill of those who have operated it.
