Video footage has emerged of a reckless driver who forced police on a dramatic chase across Christchurch.
A police spokesman told Chris Lynch Media police received multiple complaints from around 5:50pm of reckless driving in Christchurch linked to the same car on Saturday night.
A commercial helicopter was called in to help police catch the driver who failed to stop for officers.
Alice Maxwell’s husband captured the motorist’s extremely dangerous driving on his vehicle cameras.
It shows the offender driving on the wrong side of Sparks Road in Hoon Hay, narrowly avoiding a traffic island.
A police spokesman said “police did not pursue the vehicle, but maintained observation with the assistance of a commercial helicopter.”
An eyewitness said he saw a white Mazda sedan getting chased by multiple police cars and a chopper at around 8.30PM in Barrington.
The police spokesman said the vehicle was located on Tram Road just off Main North Road, and one person was taken into custody with the assistance of a Police Dog Unit.
