The victim of five raids on his Christchurch dairy has written an open letter to his local MP, Megan Woods.
The Racecourse Dairy was targeted by youths in Sunday morning.
As first reported by Chris Lynch Media, owner Mike stood up to a hammer-wielding youth during the robbery.
His partner Jane, who runs the dairy, was also the victim of a serious aggravated robbery.
It’s a stark reminder of the ongoing threat faced by small business owners across New Zealand.
Megan Wood’s office has not responded to a request for comment.
____
I am the co-owner of 2 small businesses in your electorate, an independent lawn mowing business, which I started after retiring from 31 years’ service in the Military, and The Racecourse Dairy which my partner runs on a day-to-day basis. I was born, schooled and live in this electorate.
The dairy has suffered five incidents in the last 3 years, the first being an aggravated robbery involving a firearm and the two most recent being 7 days apart involving the front door being smashed in.
It is worth noting this was the 3rd incident this year!
All stories regarding burglaries can be found on Chris Lynch Media, where you can also see I was confronted by a hammer-wielding individual, then nearly run over by a stolen fleeing vehicle, all whilst trying to protect my property and investment.
I am very disappointed that your office has not reached out and contacted us, to ensure our financial and physical and mental well-being are being adequately maintained. As for some dairy owners, it is not!

I am now challenging you to front up to us with an explanation of why this is happening in your electorate.
What you are doing about it – and will the government prevent crime from escalating in the future?
What are the plans for successful pathways and models for both punitive and constructive education policies for the youth of today and tomorrow?
They must include sound ethics and values-based principle education that aligns one’s moral compass, enabling them to support their community, not destroy it!
We have a lot of foot traffic through our doors with a consensus that the blame lies at this government and previous progressive governments’ door, with some terming this generation as “The Bradford Generation”, a very fitting description I think.
Like us, these people do not feel safe anymore and deserve an explanation and an opportunity to glimpse the light at the end of the tunnel.
If you want to gauge the current feeling of your constituents make the effort to meet us!
I look forward to your response.
Mike, Racecourse Dairy Sockburn
