Mt Hutt Ski Area has been left scratching its head after an unexpected summer snowfall blanketed the area.
In a light-hearted post, the team joked about swapping BBQs and balmy Nor’westerly breezes for trousers, as maintenance crews braved the cold weather usually reserved for the ski season.
“Snow! In January! When tomatoes should be sunbathing, and we should be… well… also sunbathing,” the post read, describing the surprise snowfall that interrupted their summer plans.
The unseasonal weather has left even the tomatoes at a loss, with the team humorously pleading with Mother Nature to “hit the ‘Summer’ switch” and bring back the warm sunshine.
Meanwhile, Metservice has issued a Strong Wind Watch for Canterbury High Country, Queenstown Lakes District, Central Otago, Dunedin, Clutha, Fiordland, Southland, and Stewart Island; with Heavy Rain Watch for the ranges of the Westland District south of Whataroa and Fiordland for much of Tuesday.
