Two people have been seriously injured, including one who is fighting for his life, following a stabbing incident in central Christchurch.
A police spokesman told chrislynchmedia.com emergency services were called to Hereford Street just after 4 AM, where two people were found seriously injured.
An eyewitness said he saw two people fighting on the ground.
“I saw a young man holding a sharp object in his hand, like a knife,” he said.
The man who was allegedly stabbed had come into town to pick up his kids and subsequently got into a fight the witness said.
Police tape was used to surround the scene while emergency staff treated one of the patients.
A St John spokeswoman said they responded to the incident with two ambulances, a rapid response unit, and a manager.
Crews assessed and treated two patients, one in a critical condition and one in a serious condition, both of whom were transported to Christchurch Hospital.
A police spokesman said they were still determining what took place.
