Christchurch’s newest e-scooter brand, Ario, has had a strong start, with over 8,000 people signing up in its first week and more than 7,000 trips recorded across the city.

Replacing Neuron, which lost its contract in the Christchurch City Council’s tender process, Ario’s three-wheeled scooters have quickly become a popular choice for residents and visitors.

With two wheels at the front and one at the rear, the scooters offer greater stability compared to traditional two-wheeled models, making them easier to balance and ride.

Ario’s General Manager for Australia and New Zealand, Adam Rossetto told Chris Lynch Media the uptake has been impressive, with the scooters being used by commuters, students, and tourists alike.

“It’s been an exciting first week for Ario in Christchurch, and we’re really pleased with how the community has embraced the e-scooters,” he said.

“Some of the most popular routes so far are along Cashel Street, Riccarton Road, and Cambridge Terrace, showing how quickly people have incorporated Ario into their daily travel.”

The three-wheel design is proving to be a key selling point, with many riders appreciating the smoother, more stable ride.

Rossetto said Ario is focused on safety and long-term sustainability, with a local operations team monitoring rider feedback and adjusting fleet positioning to meet demand.

“We’re committed to making Ario a long-term, sustainable transport option for Christchurch and will continue listening to the community as we grow,” he said.

With thousands of trips already logged in its opening week, Ario’s arrival signals a strong shift in the city’s micro-mobility scene, giving Christchurch riders a new and increasingly popular way to get around.
