A fire broke out at an abandoned house on Pages Road in Aranui at 5am this morning, with firefighters battling to contain the blaze.
Two fire crews from Anzac Drive station and one from Woolston station responded to the call, a fire and emergency spokesperson said.
When they arrived, the house was already “well involved” in flames. Firefighters worked quickly to extinguish the fire.
The house was unoccupied, and the fire is being treated as suspicious. The property has had a troubled history, with multiple fires reported in the past.
Police attended the scene to manage traffic, and a fire investigator remains on-site to determine the cause.
A neighbour told Chris Lynch Media they did their best to stop the fire from spreading.
“The fire had reached our fence, so we made sure it didn’t catch our house on fire while we grabbed anything important.”
Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
