Emergency services are at the scene of a crash involving a car and truck that has blocked State Highway 1, north of Rakaia.
A police spokesperson told chrislynchmedia.com the crash was reported around 8.40am on the overbridge near Main Rakaia Road. The road has since been closed.
A St John spokesperson said they dispatched an ambulance, a PRIME (Primary Response in a Medical Emergency) responder, and an operations manager.
One patient in minor condition was assessed and treated at the scene, while another patient in moderate condition is being transported to Ashburton Hospital.
Southbound traffic is being diverted at the intersection of SH1 and Old South Road, with northbound traffic redirected via North Rakaia Road.
Motorists should expect delays while the scene is cleared.
NZTA advised, “State Highway 1 is closed between the intersections of Main Rakaia Road and North Rakaia Road. Plan your journey accordingly and allow extra time for travel.”
