Thieves have broken into St Augustine’s Church in Cashmere, stealing a number of valuable and sacred items.
The burglary took place overnight on Tuesday February 11th with police confirming they received a report regarding the break-in.
Speaking with Chris Lynch Media, the church’s vicar’s warden Jo Ashton-Martyn said among the stolen items were four silver chalices, two large brass candleholders, a large brass altar Bible stand, a priest’s wafer jar, a small Hoglund wine carafe, and seven bottles of communion wine.
Police conducted a scene examination but said nothing was found that could immediately help identify those responsible, a spokesperson said.
