The SPCA is appealing to the public for information regarding “a particularly disturbing incident” involving a cat that was found alive in a wheelie bin with severe injuries.

The white longhaired cat was found inside a wheelie bin on Renfrew Street, Upper Riccarton on 24 July 2022.

An SPCA spokesperson said the cat had multiple fractures and as a result, she had to be put to sleep.

“SPCA Inspectors located her owner who was obviously devastated.

The cat went missing from the Halswell area on 22 July 2022, 8km away from where she was found.

Around the same time, the white cat went missing, a black cat owned by the same individual also went missing.

This cat was found dead in Sydenham.

“Someone must know who removed these cats from their loving home and caused their deaths.”

The white cat in particular is quite distinctive, so if you saw anything suspicious or have any information that could help us find the person responsible, contact Inspector Jeanee on 027 839 8819. Your information will remain confidential.”
