The Sofitel Sydney Wentworth has unveiled its $70 million AUD refurbishment, reimagining the iconic Sydney hotel’s celebrated heritage for the modern era.
The renovation has breathed new life into the landmark property originally created by Qantas in the 1960s.
At the heart of the refurbishment was a vision to recapture the jet-set glamour that characterised the hotel’s original charm, which once attracted royals, movie stars, and dignitaries as Australia’s premier international five-star hotel.
The redesign balanced the building’s post-war minimalist architecture with contemporary luxury, embodying a “modern heritage” style.
The project covered the entire hotel, including all 436 guest rooms and suites, the Sofitel Club Millésime, a new wellness centre, public spaces, and conference and event areas.
A key addition was a multi-venue dining and drinking precinct created in partnership with Sydney hospitality group House Made Hospitality, featuring two restaurants, Tilda and Delta Rue, two bars, Bar Tilda and Wentworth Bar, and one of Sydney’s largest outdoor terrace bars.
A sleek bronze façade marked the new grand entrance, offering passersby a view into the redesigned lobby. A striking lighting feature, inspired by Sofitel’s candlelit room service tradition, illuminated the space. Inside, the lobby decor blended 1960s-inspired design elements with soft curves and mid-century flair, creating inviting lounge areas for guests.
Guest rooms and suites provide a mix of nostalgic details and modern comforts, with amenities such as a Wellness Bag for in-room fitness, including yoga mats and resistance bands.
The hotel has also introduced a dedicated Sofitel Club Millésime lounge, offering exclusive check-in services and a tranquil retreat for club members. Meanwhile, conference and event facilities, including the iconic Wentworth Ballroom, underwent significant technology upgrades, enhancing lighting, presentation, and staging systems for events of up to 750 guests.
