One person has died following a two-vehicle crash on Mouse Point Road, Hurunui, this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the crash shortly after 4:20 pm, near Hanmer Springs Road.

Police confirmed that the person died at the scene, while no further injuries were reported.

The road has been closed, and motorists are being advised to avoid the area and expect delays.

The Serious Crash Unit is conducting a scene examination.
