A search and rescue operation has been paused tonight as poor weather conditions hinder efforts to locate three climbers missing on Aoraki Mount Cook.
The climbers, who were attempting to summit the mountain, were expected to complete their climb at 8.30am but failed to meet their prearranged transport.
A missing persons report was made to police at 12.45pm.
Police Search and Rescue teams, along with the Department of Conservation, began their search this afternoon, deploying a helicopter and specialist personnel.
However, deteriorating weather has forced the search to be temporarily suspended.
Authorities said the operation will resume as soon as weather conditions improve.
Further updates are expected to be provided when new information becomes available.
