Rolleston came alive with festive cheer as thousands gathered to celebrate the return of the Rolleston Christmas Parade and Market, marking the first Christmas parade in over 30 years.
The event, held on Sunday, attracted families from across Selwyn, creating a vibrant atmosphere filled with holiday joy.
This year’s parade featured 55 floats, showcasing the creativity and spirit of the community.
Santa Claus made his highly anticipated appearance, delighting children as he waved through the crowds.
Performances ran throughout the morning, keeping attendees entertained with live music, dancing, and community showcases.
The accompanying market was bustling with activity, with 97 stall holders offering handmade crafts, festive treats, and unique gifts.
Kids enjoyed free entertainment, including appearances by the Periwinkle Fairy and Silly Billy the clown, who kept the little ones laughing and engaged.
In addition to the festivities, the event featured 10 raffles to support fundraising efforts for Lions Rolleston + Districts, with all proceeds going back into the community.
Taylor Staines, from the Rolleston Christmas Parade Committee, reflected on the importance of the event, saying, “It’s incredible to bring a Christmas parade to Rolleston. With such an amazing turnout, it’s clear how much this event means to our community.”
Residents praised the event for bringing people together. “It’s such a wonderful way to kick off the holiday season,” said attendee Michael Scott. “There’s something for everyone, and it really shows the heart of Rolleston.”
