Roads in Riccarton have re-opened following reports of an “item of concern.”

Police were called to Rotherham Street just before midday.

Witnesses reported hearing shouting as police officers instructed the public to move away from the area.

Rotherham Street, from Elizabeth Street to Riccarton Road, was completely blocked off, while Riccarton Road was closed between Rimu Street and Straven Road.

A police spokeswoman said, “Riccarton Road has reopened following a report of an item of concern. Enquiries determined the item was not of concern, and police are due to leave the scene shortly.”
