Emergency services are at the scene of a serious incident near Culverden, where a large tree has fallen onto a caravan, critically injuring the male occupant.
Fire and Emergency Shift Manager Simon Lyford told chrislynchmedia.com they were called to Balmoral Recreation Reserve Camping Ground on Balmoral Station Road at 7.20 PM.
Initially, crews from Culverden and Amberley were dispatched, but this was later adjusted to two crews from Culverden.
“Upon arrival, they found the individual trapped inside the caravan and requested heavy lifting equipment; a digger has arrived, and ambulance services are also in attendance.”
A digger was working to free the trapped man.
Canterbury crews have attended several other events involving fallen trees and branches, some of which have brought down power lines.
“We urge public to treat any downed lines as live and to call for help, allowing experts from power companies to make the area safe” Lyford said.
Emergency crews were also sent to the scene of a serious crash on Lake Summer Road in Harwaden, at 7.20PM, where the occupant of a vehicle sustained serious injuries.
The person was transported to Christchurch hospital.
