A local Prebbleton man can’t believe his luck after winning $1 million in Lotto First Division last Saturday.

The Cantabrian, who wishes to remain anonymous, bought the ticket on Saturday afternoon and found out he’d won later that evening.

“I was relaxing, scrolling on my phone when I came across the news that the winning ticket was sold at Fresh Choice Prebbleton,” the man said.

After realising that’s exactly where his ticket was from, the man hurriedly checked his ticket online.

“After scanning my ticket, it came up with ‘Major Prize Winner.’ I wasn’t sure what that meant, but I saw I had six numbers, so I looked it up and then rang my sister to double-check,” the man said.

“I was pretty excited when I realised I’d won $1 million!”

The man claimed his prize early on Sunday morning and admitted it took “a day or two” for the good news to sink in.

“I’m stoked. I’ve worked all my life, and now I don’t have to worry about the future.”

The man said he didn’t have plans to celebrate, but “the money would stay local” and he’d “try to enjoy the moment.”

“I plan to keep working because I love what I do, but this will definitely be great for my retirement.”

The winning Lotto First Division ticket was sold at Fresh Choice Prebbleton for the draw on Saturday 16 September 2023.
