Transpower has confirmed that a power outage affecting Tekapo and Albury was caused by damage to transmission lines after a helicopter crop dusting on private rural land hit the lines earlier today.

In a statement, Transpower said the pilot of the helicopter was able to land safely and report the incident. Fortunately, no one was injured.

“Our crew is now on site and has confirmed that the transmission lines were cut due to the incident,” Transpower said.

“The pilot is safe and was able to land and report the event.”

Repair work has already begun, but the outage is expected to last for an extended period. Transpower estimates it will take 24 to 36 hours to complete repairs. They have promised to provide regular updates on the situation.

Residents are encouraged to follow Transpower’s social media channels for the latest updates on the repair timeline.
