Police have arrested three youths following five ram raids in the Christchurch area this morning.
The burglaries occurred at premises on Sawyers Arms Road, Springs Road, Robert Street, Ensign Street and Ilam Road, with the first occurring around 4am and the last at 7am.
Police understand a vehicle was used to gain entry at each location.
“This offending has left a trail of destruction and I understand many shop owners will be understandably upset and angry this morning” says Superintendent Lane Todd.
“Thankfully, staff have acted quickly and have taken three offenders into custody and put a stop to any further offending.
“Youth offending is an issue that is wider than Police and we will continue to work with partner agencies and the community to find solutions.”
The three youths are facing multiple charges, including aggravated burglary, unlawfully taking a motor vehicle and failing to stop for police.
They are due to appear in Christchurch Youth Court in due course.
Police are making positive enquiries to locate others believed to be involved and further arrests are expected.
