Christchurch police are investigating after Eastgate Mall was broken into early Tuesday morning.

A police spokesperson told chrislynchmedia.com officers were alerted to an alarm activation at the mall at 3.35am.

Two people gained entry to the mall, but it is unclear at this stage whether anything was taken.

A witness said the mall was “swarming with police cars,” with officers seen inside the premises.

The police spokesperson said efforts were under way to identify and locate the offenders.

“If anyone can assist our enquiries, they’re asked to contact Police via 105 and quote file number 250121/1235,” the spokesperson said.
