Woolworths in New Brighton was forced to open late on Sunday morning following a burglary.

A police spokeswoman said police were called to a Hawke Street premises about 5am after a report of a burglary.

Enquiries into the incident were ongoing.

Police were still at the store just before midday the spokeswoman said.

A Woolworth spokesperson said “our New Brighton store was closed earlier this morning due to a break in overnight. Any further questions should be directed to police.”
