Police chase on wrong side of road ends with arrest of two 15 year olds

Two 15 year olds have be arrested after failing to stop for police on Keyes Road in Christchurch.

A police spokesman told chrislynchmedia.com  police sighted a vehicle previously reported stolen travelling on Keyes Road around 10:10pm, Police activated lights and sirens.

However, the driver continued and police did not pursue.

Police later located the vehicle driving on Anzac Drive around 10:50pm and successfully deployed police spikes.

But the vehicle kept going on the wrong side of the road, despite a police dog handler trying to bring the car to a stop.

 The vehicle came to a stop on Queen Elizabeth II Drive and the two occupants both aged 15 were arrested.

Councillor Aaron Keown said “police closed the east bound lane while Fire and Emergency crews extinguished the fire in vehicle.

“A number of onlookers had gathered to witness the spectacle.

“There was also a lot of debris from tyres that had been ‘burnt out.’

The 15 year olds are due to appear in the Christchurch Youth Court in relation to the incident on Monday.
