A police manhunt is underway following a violent incident in Phillipstown.
A police spokeswoman told chrislynchmedia.com officers were called around 10:45 a.m. after a report of a group of men entering a residential address on Aldwins Road.
Chris Lynch Media understands that three males, all wearing balaclavas and gloves and carrying weapons, smashed windows to gain entry into the property.
A woman was allegedly punched in the head, and another occupant was also attacked. Neighbours raised the alarm by calling 111.
The offenders fled the scene on foot, crossing Aldwins Road and onto Harrow Street, where they jumped into a car.
The vehicle then sped away down Tuam Street and onto Fitzgerald Avenue. A member of the public called police about the car’s dangerous driving. That person told Chris Lynch Media he witnessed the police chase around 11 a.m. on Marshlands Road.
“It was going down the footpath on the opposite side of the road for about 70 metres, then pulled out in front of traffic to continue down Marshland Road,” the witness said.
“Three young hooligans with balaclavas on and five cop cars in pursuit. The behaviour of these young kids is ridiculous and very dangerous.”
Police caught up with the car on Hills Road near Aylesford Street, where they attempted to stop it.
However, the car continued, mounted the curb, and hit a fence. When police tried to box it in, one offender jumped out of the car and fled through properties along Aylesford Street.
The pursuit was abandoned when the car started driving on the wrong side of the road.
A police spokeswoman said victims of the Aldwins Road assault knew the offenders and police were continuing to investigate.
