A pedestrian was seriously injured after being hit by a car on Mairehau Road, near Burwood Hospital.

A police spokesman told chrislynchmedia.com emergency services were advised just after 4pm on Thursday about the incident.

A St John spokesman said they responded with a rapid response unit and an ambulance.

One patient, in a serious condition, was transported to Christchurch Hospital by ambulance.

The road was partially blocked but was cleared by 4.50pm.
