Emergency services are at the scene of a paraglider crash in Sumner.
A police spokeswoman said they were alerted to the accident at 11AM.
A person has fallen from a height while paragliding.
A witness said fire engines, police, ambulance and a helicopter were at the scene.
A St John spokeswoman said they sent two ambulances, one rapid response vehicle, and one helicopter attended.
A patient in a critical condition was airlifted to Christchurch Hospital.
