One lane of State Highway One has re-opened, under traffic management, following a serious crash south of Kaikoura.
State Highway One was blocked at Peketā as a result of a crash involving a single truck just before 5PM.
Traffic was being diverted via the Inland Kaikoura Road.

A police spokesman updated chrislynchmedia.com at 9PM and said the driver of the truck was transported to Christchurch Hospital in a serious condition, and a lane had re-opened.
State Highway One was expected to remain under traffic management for some time while the crash site is cleared, the police spokeman said.
