A new operations base for security patrols has been established near Christchurch Airport thanks to Airpark Canterbury.
The new base at Airpark Canterbury’s 264 Russley Road site promises to enhance the capabilities of the Community Patrols of New Zealand (CPNZ) a volunteer organisation dedicated to ensuring community safety.
Airpark Canterbury director Graeme Harris, a former police sergeant, has leveraged his experience to support CPNZ.
Harris’s contribution includes secure parking for patrol vehicles, storage for patrol equipment and radios, free vehicle servicing and washing. This support provides a base for the patrol to maintain their fleet and ensure they are consistently prepared for duty.
Harris said, “Providing an operations base for CPNZ is Airpark Canterbury’s way of giving back to the community and supporting the essential work of the patrols. Their dedication to keeping our community safe is commendable and we are proud to assist in any way we can.”
Kevin Wilde, deputy patrol leader, expressed his gratitude for the new base and highlighted its importance for their operations.
“The support from Graeme Harris and Airpark Canterbury is invaluable. This base strengthens our ability to serve and protect the Canterbury community,” Wilde said.
The patrols conducted by CPNZ are a critical component of community safety. They regularly patrol key locations, including the Masjid Al Noor Mosque, Islamic centres, Hindu and Buddhist temples, Sikh centres, Christchurch synagogues and other areas within the wider community. These patrols are essential in maintaining a visible presence and deterring potential criminal activity.
Airpark Canterbury has launched a fundraising campaign through their website’s booking system. Customers can now donate to CPNZ when booking their Christchurch Airport parking at Airpark Canterbury. The funds raised will enhance the patrols’ capabilities, including purchasing new equipment and expanding their coverage area with additional resources.
Wilde said, “Fundraising is essential for our operations. Every contribution significantly helps us enhance our services and maintain a safe environment for the community. We kindly ask the community to support us through Airpark Canterbury’s initiatives, as your support is crucial for us to continue our vital work.”
The new CPNZ operations base at 264 Russley Road enables the team to coordinate their efforts more effectively and respond swiftly to incidents. The added resources and support will bolster their capacity to maintain a safer community.
Community members are asked to urgently contribute to the fundraising efforts to help keep our neighbourhoods safe.
