A new charter school, Christchurch North College, is set to open its doors in February 2025, aiming to provide support for students who have disengaged from traditional schooling.
The school will operate from a former English language school site on Sheffield Crescent.
The college will cater to students in Years 7 to 10, offering a “fresh approach to education.”
The school hopes to reignite students’ enthusiasm for learning and help them reach their potential.
The Christchurch Education Trust, a collective of principals from schools across northwest Christchurch, is behind the initiative.
Robert Gilbert, the trust’s convener, said the school’s mission is to create a supportive and inspiring environment for students.
“We are determined to launch Christchurch North College as a place where every student will feel valued, supported, and inspired to succeed,” Gilbert said.
“We have a group of local principals who have come together to meet the needs of these students. Our goal is to re-engage young people with learning through a combination of small class sizes, highly skilled teachers, and strong partnerships with families.”
The Sheffield Crescent site is currently being prepared to ensure it is welcoming and well-equipped for students and staff.
Once open, the college will employ a team of educators “committed to delivering quality education and holistic support.”
