A significant agreement has been reached in the repair of the Hartley Ave pedestrian overbridge, a crucial piece of infrastructure for the local Strowan community.
The Christchurch City Council and the Ministry of Education have agreed to fund the necessary repairs, with costs estimated at $44,500 to be split equally between the two entities.
The Hartley Ave pedestrian overbridge has been closed due to public safety concerns.“This is an excellent example of local and central government working closely together.
Ilam MP Hamish Campbell said “it’s great to have such a good relationship with our local representatives, strongly advocating for the community.”
“We know the Hartley Ave overbridge is a vital link for many in our community. By working together, we are ensuring this link is maintained and
improved, enhancing safety and connectivity for all.”
Campbell, Fendalton City Councillor James Gough, and Fendalton Community Board member David Cartwright visited the Hartley Ave overbridge to discuss the upcoming repairs and the steps being taken to accelerate the process.
The repair process will commence as soon as written confirmation is received from the Ministry of Education. The estimated timeframe for completion is 4 weeks from the start date.
