A motorcyclist has died in a crash in Greymouth this morning.

A police spokeswoman said the crash involved the motorcyclist and another vehicle just after 10am on State Highway 6.

Residents told Chris Lynch Media the crash happened on the northern side of the Cobden Bridge.

The highway remains closed just east of the Cobden Bridge and is expected to remain closed for another few hours.

Motorists will need to divert through Stillwater.
