A 31-year-old man has been arrested and tasered following a police pursuit that stretched across several Christchurch suburbs on Friday night.
A police spokesperson told chrislynchmedia.com the incident began around 8.30pm when officers signalled a vehicle to stop on Avondale Road in Avondale.
“The vehicle did not stop and instead fled from police, driving in a dangerous manner including at excessive speed and on the wrong side of the road,” the spokesperson said.
Police deployed road spikes, which successfully brought the vehicle to a stop on Marshland Road at around 9.30pm.
“The driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was initially non-compliant and was tasered by attending police officers before being taken into custody,” police said.
Eyewitness Roberta told chrislynchmedia.com she saw the vehicle, a Subaru Legacy wagon, in Kainga around 9.15pm “running on its rims, heading eastbound.”

“The car did a U-turn, some skids, and then went back towards Marshland Road where police intervened,” she said.
Multiple units, including dog teams, were involved in the pursuit down Marshland Road towards the area where several roadside vegetable shops are located.
“They had the dog units there. One of the dogs was out, and they pulled the guy from the car and cuffed him,” Roberta said.
The vehicle was reportedly driven on its rims for an extended period, including across the Kainga railway line.
The man has been charged in relation to the incident and is due to appear in the Christchurch District Court today, 12 April the police spokesman said.
