A man is fighting for his life after a tree fell onto his campervan in North Canterbury last night.

As first reported by Chris Lynch Media, Emergency services were called to Balmoral Station Road in Balmoral at approximately 7:20 PM.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand said two appliances were sent to the scene along with a digger to lift the tree off the campervan.

The man was extricated just before 10 PM.

St John dispatched multiple units, including a first-response unit, two rapid-response units, an ambulance, and a manager.

The man was transported to Christchurch Hospital in a critical condition.
